Narcissa Black straightened her dress, trying to keep her chin up, it was her first proper date with Lucius Malfoy since school. She was 19 and he hadn’t got the guts to ask her till now, frankly, that bothered her, but she still had the same feelings for him. She waited outside of her parents house and rocked back and forth slightly in her 4 inch heels. A sharp low crack erupted from the end of the driveway, a young man strolled through the gates. He had a gaunt face, startlingly blue eyes and platinum blonde hair that was greased back on his head. “Evening Narcissa.” he said in his rich, deep droll, that made Narcissa’s heart quicken. “Hello Lucius.” she replied, her voice equally as rich, but smooth and calming. He offered his arm to her and she took it, they then apparated to the doorstep of a very high class Muggle restaurant. She smiled, “I see you’ve gotten over your hate for Muggles.” she said as he pushed open the door. “Then you obviously can’t see very clearly. I have not gotten over it, just mentally cast it aside, I knew you enjoyed this restaurant, so I chose it.” he said, smugly. She ignored the rude comment and enjoyed the fact that he chose what she liked. “I appreciate the gesture.” she said coolly and entered the building to find a large dining area, she looked around. “Which table is ours?” she asked, playing with her dress a bit. “Not in here.” he said and walked to the back room, where he curtly conversed with a waiter and then went out to the back terrace, motioning for Narcissa to follow. She did. She found a patio with a small table, elegantly set with lovely China and dimly lit candles. She beamed and walked over to the table, taking the seat that Lucius pulled out for her. “Thank you.” she said, gratefully. He nodded and took his seat across from hers. A waiter came out and gave them menus. “I apologize for the setting,” he said, after the waiter left them to choose. “It was hard enough to bring myself to eat at a Muggle restaurant, but I refuse to eat in a room overflowing with them.” he sniffed indignantly. Narcissa smiled and put a hand on top of his. “That’s fine, I love it, thank you.” she said and sat back in her chair. At the same time, Lucius leaned forward, obviously fascinated with her beauty. “You’re welcome.” he said, transfixed on her. “You look striking tonight.” he said quietly. She blushed and leaned forward as well. “Thank you.” she muttered, her eyes gazing into his. Just then the waiter came back and they ordered. They chatted for a bit, disagreeing on some political issues, but silently agreeing on their feelings towards each other. As soon as they finished their meal, Lucius stood up and held out his hand. “Care to stroll the dismal atrium?” Narcissa giggled quietly and delicately took his hand. “I’d love to.” she stood up and they walked along the edge of the property of the restaurant. After they circled the property twice, they went back to their table to collect their things and leave the bill, which Lucius paid for. He then walked her to a safe distance from the view of the restaurant so they could apparate, ending up quite a ways down the road from her house. “Why are we here?” Narcissa asked. “I figured we’d enjoy another walk.” Lucius said, reaching for her hand. She let her hand slip into his. “Alright.” she muttered and they started off down the road, slowly. They talked some more, about everything, for ten minutes till they reached her driveway. He smiled and continued up the drive. “Well, I suppose this is where I leave you.” he said as they were approaching the front steps. She nodded. “Yes, I suppose so.”
He then left her on the steps, with a kiss and the memory of a perfect night.

It was October 16th 1993. the wind whipped around the door, pushing it open and closed again. Felicity Smoak was standing at the kitchen counter, she was 7 years old, so she was on her tiptoes and still barely reaching the top. She pulled down the bag her mother had told her to get for her. Outside, Philip Coulson drove up the road, the engine of his car revving gently. He parked the car in the driveway and got out, he quickly went to the trunk of the car and knocked on it to shut up the wailing man inside. He entered his sister’s house, he went to the living room and neatly folded his suit coat on a chair and headed for the kitchen where he saw his 7 year old niece, Felicity, reaching for something. He smiled and ruffled her hair. “Hey puppy.” he said, using his special nickname, reserved for her. “What are you up to?” he asked her softly and playfully, kneeling down in front of her and tapping her cute little nose. She looked up at him, a grin spreading over her face. “Uncle Phil!” She dropped the bag she was holding and ran to give him a hug. “What are you doing here? Mom didn’t tell me you were going to come.” Coulson grinned back. “Well, that’s because your Mom didn’t know. I was just in the neighbourhood.” he straightened his suit shirt and tie. “What for?” She asked. “Oh,” he said, trying to come up with an excuse that this bright 7 year old might buy. “Well, you see, I was being chased by bad guys and they had guns and everything, they chased me here and I took them out single handedly and stuck them in my car trunk.” or he could just tell her the truth and make it a joke, he laughed. “I like the price of butter up here more than where I live.” he winked and gave her round, pink cheek a smooch. She nodded slowly. “Indeed.” She contemplated his answer. Coulson chuckled. “There you go kiddo, where’s your mom?” Felicity picked the bag she dropped back up and pointed to the library. “She is working on some taxes in there.” She took his hand in her small one and walked into the room her mother was in. “Hey Chuck,” he smiled. “This little one seems to be getting along quite well, she’s lot taller than when I last saw her.” His sister got out of her chair with a sigh. “Phil...” she said warily and then looked at Felicity. “Hey baby, why don’t you go finish that letter you were writing to Evan?” she smiled at Felicity and brushed some hair behind her ear. Felicity frowned a bit, she knew when her mother was hiding something, but she nodded and left the room. “Yes, ma’am.” She smiled at them both and walked back to the table her letter was at. Coulson watched her go and turned back to his sister. “What’s going on?” he asked. Charlotte stepped forward and sighed. “Phil, you know I told you not to come back until you were done with them.” Coulson sighed. “Chuck, I can’t. I won’t stay away from my own niece and sister and I won’t give up my job.” he smiled sadly.
Charlotte glared at him. “Phil,” she started angrily, when she noticed that Felicity was in the doorway. “Felly...” she said sadly. Felicity moved her feet back and forth as she looked at the ground. “I’m sorry, mom.” She looked up at her mother and her bottom lip slid out a bit, quivering. Coulson melted. Charlotte sighed. “I’m sorry, baby, you weren’t supposed to hear us. How do you think Evan will feel when his letter is late?” she asked, playfully. Coulson practically elbowed Charlotte out of the way to get to Felicity, he wrapped her up in a hug. “You know what, puppy? I was just leaving anyways.” he said and stood up, with her still in his arms. She rested her head on his shoulder. “Please, please, don’t stay away forever...please.” Coulson’s heart flopped at the sight of her cute face looking up at him and begging him to stay. “I promise, I’ll come back for your birthday, okay?” he asked, knowing that she’d throw a fit, seeing as her birthday was months away. “My birthday...no.” She wrapped her arms around his neck. “No, you have to come sooner, please? Please Uncle Phil?” Coulson sighed. “Okay baby, I’ll see you...” he thought when Director Fury might let him go. “How about in two weeks?” he asked. She nodded and smiled at him. “Two weeks works.” She looked up at her mother. “Is that okay mom?” She mouthed ‘please’ to her mother, behind her Uncles back. Charlotte sighed, choking back tears. “Yeah, that’s fine.” she sniffed. She couldn’t stand the thought of something happening to Phil, leaving Felicity crushed. “Phil, you better be here in two weeks.” she said quietly. Coulson nodded. “Alright then, it’s settled.” he grinned at felicity, giving her one last smooch and setting her down. He gave Charlotte a kiss on the cheek as well and he headed for the door. “Bye Chuck, bye puppy.” He said, before heading out and closing the door behind him. Felicity waved good bye till her arm hurt. She turned and hugged her mother. “Thank you mom.” She smiled up at her. “Oh, I have to tell Evan.” She ran back over to the table, nearly knocking the chair over as she jumped into it to write her letter. Charlotte motioned at the chair in the living room. “Hey baby, why don’t you take his coat out to him before he leaves?” she said, hearing the engine starting up. Felicity looked up and saw the coat. “Okay.” She grinned and took the coat, running outside, a little faster then her legs could take, but she managed to stay upright. “Uncle Phil!” She yell and jumped up and down by the edge of the driveway. Coulson spotted Felicity and stopped his car, despite the dire emergency of the man in the trunk, he rolled down the window. “What is it, puppy?” he asked, opening the door and holding out his arms for her. She stumbled a little as she ran over. “You left your coat, here.” She held it up for him, but it being so big, she looked as if she was holding a very large, very dark mound of cloth, that was much bigger than she was. Coulson took the coat. “Thanks, baby.” he said, pulling her into an overwhelming hug that smelled like lavender and spearmint. “I love you, okay?” he asked, kissing the top of her strawberry blonde head of curls. “Bye-bye.” he said, feeling like the next two weeks would be eternity.

12 year old Evan Lorne sat in his room, re-reading a letter from his 7 year old cousin, Felicity, about how she couldn’t decide which type of cookies to make for their Uncle Phil. Currently Felicity and his Aunt Chuck were down stairs, talking to his parents and his sister about the recent disappearance of his Uncle Phil. Evan always tried to seem tough, but not this time, he wiped away the tears that spilled down his face, the hollow, empty feeling in his stomach more painful than ever, he missed his uncle, more than he cared to admit. He crept out of his room to the top of the stairs and slid slowly down the banister, he whistled a slow calm melody, Felicity and his signal. Felicity heard a whistle coming from the stairs, she walked over, slower than she normally would, but she was in low spirits and didn’t feeling hurrying. Evan saw her and motioned for her to come upstairs. She ran up the stairs, well, it was more like a half run, as she used her hands to make herself go faster. When she reached the top, she walked over to him. She wanted to give him a hug, but he was always trying to seem cool and calm, so she didn’t, letting him keep his cover and cool. Evan looked into Felicity’s eyes and saw the sadness that dwelled there. “Come here, button.” he said, the nickname ‘button’ deriving from her buttonlike nose, pulling her into the biggest and most emotional hug he’d ever given, he even let a few tears fall. Felicity felt his tear on her shoulder and she knew she wouldn’t be able to keep it in, she started to wail and sob, as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Evan pulled her into his room, to keep them both quiet and he sat on his bedroom floor, holding her tight to him and letting her cry into his chest. He rested his cheek on her head and rocked back and forth, that one traitorous lump in his throat threatening to burst and expose his hidden feelings, which were mournful to say the least. “What’s happened to him?” She looked up at Evan, the tears still falling down her face. “Is he...dead?” She sniffed and wiped her nose with her arm, but it made more of a mess than anything else. Evan shook his head. “I don’t know, button, I don’t think I want to know.” he sighed and sniffled.”I hope he is okay...maybe he found some cave to hide in?” She said, with a sigh. Evan sighed and laid back on the ground, with Felicity sitting on his stomach. “I’m not sure. I want to say that he’s fine, that it’ll all be okay, but I can’t guarantee that.” She nodded. “I know, I’d trust you if you had said he was fine.” She smiled up at him. He nodded. “Yeah, I know you would.” he smiled, trying to cheer her up and he sat up without using his hands, it slightly burned his core, but he ignored it, nothing physical could hurt as much as the emptiness in him. “You know what? You’re pretty smart for a 7 year old.” he said and tousled her hair. She shook her head. “Mom says that I should try to point that out to others, they might not like it, especially if they are older than me.” She sighed, again and then rubbed her eyes. He nodded, “Yeah, but if they've got a problem with you, they answer to me, got it kiddo?” he asked, looking at her with his big, round, blue-grey eyes. She smiled, but not the normal way she did. “I know, I trust you’ll always take care of me, like how dad used to.” She smiled, her mother had told her stories of her father, but she didn’t remember meeting him, or knowing him at all. “Yeah, he was a pretty great guy.” he smiled fondly, he only just barely remembered his Uncle Colbie, and what he did remember, he liked. He was 6 when Felicity’s father died, and he had very vague memories of that terrible night. “What are we going to do without Uncle Phil?” She asked, not looking at his face. Evan bit his trembling lip. “We do what he always told us to do, don’t forget who we are and where our place is and keep our parents happy.” “And keep yourselves out of trouble, but I don’t think that one was official.” She laughed a little, but it died down as quickly as it had started. He nodded. “Yeah, but I wasn’t planning on doing that anyways.” he smiled and tapped her nose gently, the way Uncle Phil used to, but he did it rougher. She smiled at him, but it slowly broke apart, till she was sobbing again. Evan joined in and they cried together for about an hour, before her mother came up. “Oh babies.” she said, sadly. “Come here, you two.” she said, holding out her arms. Evan stood up, holding Felicity, and ran into Charlotte’s awaiting arms. Felicity couldn’t hold anything in once she was in her mother arms. “I know, this is hard. But Phillip is a good guy, a strong man, he can take care of himself. Whatever has happened, he’ll pull through.” “I know mommy.” Felicity said, but it was barely audible over her sobbing. Evan nodded and left Felicity with Charlotte, he left his room and down the hall, bounded up the stairs to the attic to hide in there, it was his ‘quiet place’, where he went when he was upset. His Uncle Phil had shown it to him when he was younger...

Evan heard his Uncle Philly come in the door, his 4 year old legs carried him at an insane speed out of the kitchen and crashing into his Uncles legs. “Hey Uncle Philly.” he grinned widely, his speech surprisingly good for a 4 year old. Veronica, his sister, 6 years old and only now starting to notice how much prettier her mother looked with her makeup, so, why shouldn’t Veronica use it to. She smiled at her brother, the lipstick all over her face. “What do you think?” She smiled, putting her hand under her chin like how the girls did on the swimsuit commercials she watched with her mother. Coulson grinned and laughed. “Wow Ronnie, that’s something, I gotta say though, it compliments your eyes.” he said, chucking her under the chin and picking up Evan. “So, what have you two been up to?” he asked, bouncing Evan slightly. Veronica shrugged. “Not much, especially with him.” She pointed to Evan, like he was something that was always in her way. Evan scrunched up his nose. “I’m a good boy!” he cried, defensively. “Ask mommy, she says I’m an angel.” he said, giggling innocently. Veronica kissed the top of his head. “I’m sure she says that.” She smiled and then flipped her hair over her shoulder and wandered back over to her mother’s makeup box on the table. Coulson smirked and set Evan down. “So, what shall we do, young Squidge?” he asked, kneeling down in front of him. “Ekshploring!” he cried, the only sound he had trouble with was his ‘x’s’. Coulson chuckled and nodded. “Sounds good to me.” he said and held out his hand for Evan to grab, having to bend down slightly. Evan waddled to the stairs and struggled up them, looking like a chubby puppy. Coulson scooped him up again and jogged up the stairs. “There you go, buddy.” he said and set him down again. Evan scampered down the hall to his parents room and went tearing in and flew into the closet, digging in his mother’s shoes and his fathers tie rack. Coulson laughed. “What are you looking for, buddy?” he asked. “Money’s!!” he cried and came out with a penny. “Can I?” he asked, opening his mouth and holding the small copper coin close. “Eh, no, let’s not do that.” he responded, motioning for Evan to follow him out of the closet. “Come here, let’s look somewhere else.” he said and pointed at Evan’s room. “You look in there and I’ll look down here.” he motioned at the end of the hall. Evan nodded and dove into his room, scrambling under his bed and pulling out everything he could find. Coulson smirked and headed off down the hall, he stopped outside of the old attic door that was rusted shut previously, but his other sister, Veronique, and her husband had it fixed and they cleaned out the attic except for some old furniture from their parents houses. Coulson pushed the door open slowly, he walked up the stairs, they were surprisingly sturdy, and he looked around at the dismal space. There was an old desk, a couple chairs, a bed frame, a few mattresses leaning up against one wall, a bookcase and a strange glass cabinet that was full of some trinkets. “Hey Squidge!” he called. “Come here, I found somewhere for you to explore.” he said,, going over to lay one of the mattresses flat on the floor. He heard small feet pattering down the hall, up the stairs and into the attic. “Whoa! A treasure chest!” he cried, fascinated by the apparent age of the room. “Not quite, but real close.” Coulson said, sitting on the mattress. “A batcave?” Evan asked, joining him. “No, just a secret place, for you.” he said, smiling down at the 4 year old. “Whoa!” he repeated. “All for me? I don’t have to show it to Ronnie?”
“Nope, you don’t.”
“Cool.”
A voice travelled into the room, coming from the kitchen. “Lunch!”
It was Evan’s Uncle Colbie.
He walked over to the stairs. “Evan? Phil? You coming?”
“Yup!” Coulson replied, holding out his hand for Evan to grab. “Come on, buddy. I hope your mother still cooks as good as she used to.” he smiled as Evan grinned and bolted for the stairs and raced off down the hall, leaving Coulson following behind.
“Foooooooood!!!!!!!” Evan yelled when he reached the kitchen. Coulson smirked and grabbed his coat off of a chair. “Actually, I’ve got to dash.” he said, kissing the tops of the kids heads. “Sorry.” he said, as Evan waddled over and wrapped his arms around his leg. “Bye, Uncle Philly.”
Veronique came in. “Oh, you’re leaving, already?” she said, kissing his cheek.
“Yeah, sorry.” he said, returning the kiss and then turning to shake hands with Colbie and Jared.
Evan sighed. “I’ll miss you.” he muttered into his pant leg.
Coulson reached down and picked him up. “I know, buddy. But tell you what, whenever you are sad, or scared, or lonely, go up to your secret place. Because, it’s just you in there... you and me.” he smiled. “I love you.”
Evan nodded. “Okay.” he whispered and gave Coulson a big slobbery kiss on the cheek. “I love you too.” Once he was back on the ground, he scampered to his mother and leaned up against her, to watch his Uncle leave, not knowing what awaited them in the future.
“Bye Squidge...”
